Noel Gallagher: Arsenal are ‘bottlers’ and Manchester United are bigger rivals to Man City this season

Noel Gallagher doesn’t rate Arsenal’s chances at Premier League glory and reckons Manchester United are Manchester City’s biggest rivals this season.

Arsenal came up second best in their fight for the Premier League title last season, falling in the final few games as City relentlessly pushed.

While Mikel Arteta has strengthened with Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber signing, the former Oasis member does not fancy the Gunners, whom he believes are ‘bottlers’.

In fact, Gallagher went onto say that United are set to enjoy a better campaign in the Premier League and believes they could be the main rival City for the title.

Speaking to Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT Drive, he said: “I don’t think [Arsenal] they will have as good a season as they did last year. That was a one-in-a-million chance for them.

“I think the pressure is on Arsenal, they have to win. First of all, they have to win a trophy.

“When it gets down the stretch, they bottled it once. They tend to do it.

“Even with Declan Rice. I don’t think he is a player that is going to transform their team. He doesn’t score, assist, he is not that fast. I don’t really know what all the fuss is about.

“I’d say United are a better bet to come second than Arsenal, I am not sure where anybody gets Chelsea from, putting them top four.

“No one knows how they are going to be. You look at Chelsea and they could be anything, I don’t see them getting top four.

“I think it will be City, probably United, For Liverpool to do anything they have to come out the traps and win 12 games in a row and Arsenal will have too much on.

“They had one job last season, to win the league, and they had it in their hands. They were out of the cups early.

“All they had to do was win a couple more home games and the pressure got to them and that was the end of that.”

Arsenal have spent more than anyone else in the Premier League this summer, splashing out on over £200million.

Yet Gallagher does not believe they have improved that much, singling out one player in particular and talking about the Community Shield on Sunday.

The rock and roll legend added: “Kai Havertz, I don’t understand. I don’t understand what kind of player he is meant to be, anyway. Why Arsenal bought him is beyond me.

“The squad is marginally better but take Sunday for example. They had all their big guns out except Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

“City never got out second gear and if it wasn’t for Kyle Walker getting a head injury in the last minute, there would have never been that time added on [for Leandro Trossard to score in].

“City were strolling around that game, De Bruyne didn’t even play, Haaland was off after 60 minutes. I don’t see why anyone gassing up Arsenal are coming from.”
