McIlroy and Rahm headline the FedEx St Jude Championship

The culmination of the FedEx Cup sees a trio of elite tournaments with 70 players making the first competition before it’s cut down to 50 for the BMW Championship and then just 30 for the Tour Championship finale at East Lake.

Each tournament has a bumper prize pot and, of course, an elite field.

Nine of the world’s top ten players will headline the FedEx St Jude including the big three of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.

FedEx St Jude: What has been said?

Thomas, who won the FedEx Cup in 2017, suffered heartbreak at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday and missed out on the FedEx St Jude by just one shot.

The two-time Major champion saw a long-range chip on the final hole lip out as he fell agonisingly close from making the play-offs.

He said: “It would have been a lot more incredible if it would have gone in.

“I know this game doesn’t owe you anything, but I feel like I fought hard enough to deserve it.

“I hit some really, really good shots when I needed to, hit some great chips when I needed to, hit an unbelievable putt for eagle on 15 and obviously the up-and-down on 17 and 18.

“I did the best I could.”
